What customers say

“We were extremely pleased with the quality of the leadwork flashing which Lewis undertook for us both in connection with our new extension and replacement of old leadwork at the front of the house. We would have no hesitation in recommending Lewis to anyone requiring leadwork of any type.”
Andrew G. · Lead flashings
“I used this company for specialist leadwork which was complex and needed to be of the highest standard. They lived up to my expectation and were hard working, professional and at the top of their game.”
Paul A. · Specialist leadwork
“The finish on the roof and leadwork was excellent and the whole process was really stress free with L&E Leadwork as Lewis was so knowledgable and friendly, we had constant communication and clear timelines! Would definitely recommend!”

About

L&E Leadwork and Roofing

L&E Leadwork and Roofing is Lewis's company, based on Nine Mile Ride in Wokingham. Leadwork is what we are known for: chimney and abutment flashings, dormer tops and cheeks, bay, porch and canopy roofs, lead capping under copings, and shelf and cill details on new builds. Every job is formed and fixed to Lead Sheet Association guidelines, in the right code of lead, with the laps, welts and fixings it needs to move with the weather.

More about us

FAQs

Questions we get asked

How long does leadwork last?

Fitted properly, lead lasts a very long time, and plenty of old lead on period houses is still doing its job after 100 years. Most early failures we are called out to come from the wrong underlay, too little allowance for expansion, or pieces that are too big for the code of lead used.

What code of lead do you use?

It depends on the detail. Flashings and soakers are usually Code 4, dormer tops, bays and capping are usually Code 5, and we used Code 6 on the Windsor canopy. We follow the Lead Sheet Association guidance on code and piece size for each job.

Why has my lead started to crack or corrode?

The usual causes are lead laid in pieces that are too long, fixings that stop it moving, no ventilation under it, or the wrong underlay. On a job at Wentworth the lead was corroding from underneath because of the underlay. We look at why it failed before we price the repair, so it does not happen again.

Do you work on listed buildings?

Yes. We have worked on a listed property opposite Windsor Castle and on Wokingham Baptist Church, and we are used to working to conservation officers' requirements.

Do you do flat roofs and tiled roofs as well?

Yes. We lay GRP (ResTec Flexitec 2020), Sika single-ply and EPDM flat roofs, and strip and re-tile or re-slate pitched roofs. Most of those jobs have leadwork in them too, so it is done by the same team.

Do you work for builders and contractors?

Yes. We supply leadwork and roofing packages for local builders, developers and main contractors, supply and fit or labour only, on new builds, schools, healthcare and church buildings.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Wokingham and mainly work across Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire, including Reading, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Windsor, Ascot, Sunningdale, Virginia Water and Camberley. For the right job we travel further, so ask anyway.
