We cover dormer tops and cheeks in lead on existing houses and new builds, from flat dormer tops to curved and barrel-top dormers.
In Maidenhead we replaced the tops on a row of dormers with new Code 5 lead, setting out the laps, welts and fixings to Lead Sheet Association specifications and finishing with patination oil so it weathers evenly. On a new build in Beaconsfield we leaded a set of barrel-top dormers, building in a 50mm airflow behind the cheeks and using the correct underlay so condensation cannot build up under the lead.
That ventilation detail is where a lot of dormer lead goes wrong. Without it the underside of the lead can corrode long before the outside shows any sign of it.
