Lead capping protects the tops of parapet walls and sits under coping stones to stop water getting into the wall.
On the Wentworth Estate in Virginia Water the existing lead capping was corroding from the inside out because the wrong underlay had been used. We stripped it all off, laid new plywood with a better fall towards the flat roof and an external drip edge, and re-covered it in Code 5 lead.
In Warfield the coping stones were leaking because there was not enough damp proof course under them. We lifted them and laid Code 4 lead capping underneath before refixing. At Wokingham Baptist Church we fitted new lead capping and flashings under handmade Portland stone copings on the gables.
